Lisa Uhl

Lisa grew up on a Turkey Farm in Sioux City Iowa. She is the youngest of 12 siblings.  She moved to Lincoln NE when she was 18 years old and spent 7 years there. In 1987 she moved to Kansas City.  Lisa has taught yoga for 20+ years in and around the Kansas City area.  She attended her first yoga class in 1992.  The class was Iyengar Yoga. She has been practicing ever since.   She practiced Iyengar until 1998 when she met her second teacher who was teaching Bikram Yoga.

She took the Bikram teacher’s training in 1999 and became certified to teach the 26-2.  She taught Bikram and Vinyasa for the next 10 years as well as Astanga.  She is known for her creative sequencing, and her sense of humor.  She will challenge you but add lightheartedness.  Up until 2017 Lisa taught 10-15 classes a week at several different studios in Kansas City. With the physical schedule and her love of assisting, it took its toll on her body.  In 2017 she was diagnosed with a bulging disc.

She was told she would have to stop everything and rest for a year or she would need surgery.  She let go of most of her classes.  It was too painful to teach.  She rested for over a year and healed her spine.  Since then, she has developed a love for slower, more therapeutic yoga.  She has taught more Yin and Restorative as well as more Pranayama.

“Being able to hold a safe space for students and watch them let go and rest in the moment brings all of us peace.”

Here is a list of some of her teachers through the years;
Beryl Bender Birch, Judith Lassiter, Baron Baptist, David Swenson, Doug Swenson, Rodney Yee, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Bikram Choudhury, Desiree Rumbaugh, Seane Corn, K. Pattabhi Jois, Gina Caputo, Patricia Gray, and Emily Darling.

After visiting Durango for 30 years, she moved from Kansas City in April of 2023 to be with her sister and her family and is excited to be back in the yoga community.
