Teacher Spotlight
1.) What is your background in teaching yoga/training? What got you into teaching?
My first introduction to yoga was in wilderness therapy when I was 17. I had never intentionally connected with my body before that point and it was super powerful and healing to stretch and breathe and be present with the sensations of being alive. I continued a daily practice at home after wilderness and eventually started experimenting with going to public classes, where I found hot yoga and was immediately obsessed.
By the time I was 19 I decided I wanted to pursue yoga more seriously so I signed up for my initial 200 hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training with Cambio School of Yoga in Colorado Springs. Additionally since then I've done more specified training in hot yoga (26&2), restorative and yin yoga, mindfulness facilitation, and Ayurveda adding up to over 300 hours of learning time. It feels important for me to recognize how privileged I am to have attained this knowledge of yoga, and to freely share that knowledge with respect, accuracy and tradition to the best of my ability. Yoga makes our world a safer place to live and that's why I teach!
2.)What is your favorite thing about TSB?
Just one thing? Impossible! I looooove everything about this studio, it feels like a second home to me:)
I love how we have the flexibility at this studio to be creative as teachers. Our amazing owner Cat trusts each of us to share yoga with in a way that is authentic to us, as well as welcoming and accessible for our students. Working with Cat is a huge gift. I also love connecting with my fellow yoga teachers. It feels like an honor to teach alongside everyone at TSB and I really value the diversity of knowledge and experience that we bring to the table collectively. Lastly, I love love LOVE our students. Recognizing familiar faces and meeting new ones is the absolute highlight of my day every time I step into the studio. TSB is a big huge lovely yogi family and I'm so here for it!
3.)What are some of your hobbies outside the studio?
First and foremost I love spending as much time as possible outside. Over the last two years, I've spent more than 365 nights sleeping under the stars! It's very important to me to be in connection with my animal self and all the natural cycles happening around me. I took piano lessons from a very young age and was able to read music before I could read english! I also play guitar, ukulele, banjo, a few others and love to sing as well. A lot of my downtime is spent growing/attaining fresh veggies and herbs to cook up for dinner! I looove spending time in the kitchen and sharing food with loved ones. Not to brag but I definitely make the best eggplant parmesan in Durango hands down.
