What got you into practicing yoga?

My journey with exercise has been a long one, I grew up mostly weightlifting and I’ve historically been really bad about taking the time to intentionally slow down. Every time I thought about doing yoga, I’d convince myself it wasn’t worth my time and that a run or a gym workout would serve me better. Admittedly, I didn’t think yoga would be much of a workout (spoiler alert: I was very wrong). As I’m working on healing my relationship with exercise, I’m starting to allow myself the space to slow down and recover. I’ve been on my own spiritual journey over the past few years and have realized what a gift it is to be able to move your body without judgement and all of the benefits that come with spending time with yourself in an environment like the yoga studio where you’re encouraged to listen to your body and move it accordingly. I definitely feel like I did myself a disservice by waiting this long to incorporate yoga into my routine, but now I can’t get enough.

What do you enjoy most about TSB?

So many things! My favorite being the environment and community as a whole. Every class is started with acknowledging your body and how it feels and there is always an invitation to modify or skip anything you don’t feel called to doing. This sets the tone and allows me to come into the movements without judgement, recognizing that every day my practice is going to look different and that’s okay! Having a space where the practice is structured but flexible to how my body is feeling is so refreshing and really important to me in this season of life.

It has been hard for me to find a supportive, likeminded, and uplifting community of women. I love how much feminine energy is around when I’m in the studio, I don’t feel judged or out of place and it helps set my tone for the day. I feel like the energy in every class is really beneficial to my spiritual self and I love spending my time there.

What are some hobbies outside for the studio?

I am a doer of all things, haha. My favorite hobbies include rafting, hiking, backpacking, running, camping, snowboarding… anything outside and I’m doing it! I’ve been in Durango for about 3 years now and I don’t think there’s a mountain around here I haven’t climbed. I spent last summer guiding the Animas commercially and working as field staff for Deer Hill Expeditions, I think I spent 80% of the summer living out of a tent. Last Fall I got the opportunity to backpack the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim with my dad and I had an amazing time. I’m currently focusing on getting more outdoor certs starting with my WFR and Swiftwater this coming May!
